Localization Development Accelerator 2027 for Locally-Led Organisations in East Africa

Spread the love

Locally led organisations in East Africa can apply for the 2027 Localization Development Accelerator (LDA), a nine-month programme designed to strengthen organisational systems, leadership, planning and long-term sustainability.

The programme is intended for community-rooted organisations that want to improve how they operate and deliver services. Selected organisations will take part in practical learning, mentorship, peer exchange and organisational development activities.

Participation is free for organisations that meet the programme’s eligibility requirements. The opportunity does not list a cash grant as a standard benefit.

What selected organisations will gain

The nine-month accelerator is designed to help participating organisations assess their existing structures, identify gaps and work on practical improvements.

Support includes:

  • Practical learning to strengthen internal systems and organisational foundations.
  • Mentorship for organisational development and strategic planning.
  • Peer learning and exchange with other locally led organisations.
  • Opportunities to review leadership structures and operational processes.
  • Support to identify priorities for stronger institutional sustainability.
  • A structured programme for organisations to develop plans for improving their effectiveness.

The programme is intended for organisations rather than individuals applying solely in a personal capacity.

Who can apply?

The accelerator welcomes eligible locally led organisations based in:

  • Kenya
  • Tanzania
  • Uganda
  • Rwanda

Applicants should also meet the following requirements:

  • Have an annual operating budget below US$100,000.
  • Demonstrate strong relationships with the communities they serve.
  • Meet the programme’s criteria for being locally led.
  • Be able to commit approximately two to four hours per week throughout the nine-month programme.
  • Be willing to participate in learning, mentorship, peer exchange and organisational development activities.

Organisations should review the official form for the full eligibility criteria and definition of a locally led organisation before applying.

What to prepare

Applicants should be ready to describe:

  • Their organisation’s mission and the community it serves.
  • The organisation’s local leadership and how community members participate in its work.
  • Examples of community relationships, partnerships and locally identified priorities.
  • The internal systems, leadership arrangements or operational processes they want to strengthen.
  • How they will make time for programme activities each week.
  • Their annual operating budget and how they meet the programme’s eligibility requirements.

A clear explanation of the organisation’s current needs and how the accelerator could help address them will help reviewers understand its fit for the programme.
