Job Title: Senior Agronomist
Location: Kano, Nigeria
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Senior Agronomist to lead and oversee our agronomy initiatives. The ideal candidate will provide strategic guidance, manage field teams, and drive innovation in sustainable agricultural practices. This is a leadership role that demands deep technical knowledge, strong communication, and proven field experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership: Provide strategic agronomic direction across all company projects and farming operations.
- Program Development: Design and implement crop production protocols, soil fertility management plans, pest and disease control measures, and irrigation strategies.
- Research & Innovation: Lead field trials, evaluate new technologies and methods, and promote climate-smart agriculture solutions.
- Farmer Advisory Services: Develop and deliver tailored agronomic support to farmers, ensuring the adoption of best practices and technologies.
- Team Management: Supervise and mentor junior agronomists, field officers, and extension workers, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and capacity building.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Establish performance indicators, collect data, and conduct impact assessments to guide improvements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with research institutions, government agencies, NGOs, and development partners to align programs with national and international standards.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare comprehensive technical reports, input into proposals, and contribute to organizational learning.
- Training & Workshops: Organize and lead farmer field schools, training sessions, and workshops for both staff and external stakeholders.
- Sustainability & Compliance: Ensure all agronomic activities adhere to environmental, social, and safety standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of Master’s Degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, Agricultural Science, or a related field (PhD is an added advantage).
- At least 7–10 years of professional experience in agronomy, with significant experience in field-based project management.
- Proven experience in designing and managing large-scale agricultural programs.
- Strong understanding of agroecology, climate-smart practices, and sustainable farming systems.
- Excellent leadership, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in data collection, GIS, statistical analysis, and agritech tools is desirable.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Hausa or other local languages is an advantage.
