Veteran actor Richard Mofe Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has stirred controversy after sharing a birthday tribute to fellow Nollywood star Omoni Oboli on social media.
The post, which included a photo of the two actors in a seemingly romantic pose, triggered a wave of criticism from fans who found the image inappropriate.
In the picture, RMD and Oboli appear closely embraced, a gesture many considered too intimate, especially given that both are married with adult children.
Several fans voiced their disapproval in the comment section of RMD’s Instagram post. One user, @Bignamek, wrote: “Of all the countless photos of Omoni Oboli, you choose to use this as a birthday picture? This is not nice, sir. It’s wrong from all angles. I know it’s probably from a movie set, but bringing make-believe into reality like this is not good.”
The backlash has sparked a broader conversation about boundaries, public perception, and the fine line between screen chemistry and real-life appearances.
Another fan chimed in, @KKendobaz saying, “Na person wife you hold like that dey wish am happy birthday? Nawa o!” (You’re wishing a married woman happy birthday while holding her like that? How shocking!)
Some fans felt that RMD, as a respected actor, should have been more mindful of the image he chose to share. @Mommy_ella added, “This picture feels inappropriate, considering you are both married with grown-up kids,” one fan wrote. “Honestly, it’s disappointing coming from someone so respected.”
