Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, has urged citizens to be patient with President Bola Tinubu, saying he is laying the groundwork for Nigeria’s long-term prosperity.
He noted that the administration was working through inherited challenges. He acknowledged that while Nigerians are yet to feel the full impacts of the reforms, the foundation for sustainable development had been firmly established.
“By May 29, it will be two years since President Tinubu assumed office. We are not where we want to be yet, but real progress takes time, especially when rebuilding a nation burdened by decades of neglect,” he said.
Jibrin pointed to the significant strides in security, infrastructure and the economy. He noted that terrorist activities had reduced in parts of the North West and kidnappings along critical routes such as the Abuja-Kaduna highway have also declined drastically.
He said efforts by the Armed Forces and other security agencies were beginning to yield results across the country.
“In the North East, Boko Haram’s presence has been severely weakened, with relative peace restored in most states. In the South East, violent attacks linked to unknown gunmen have also reduced.”
He also highlighted key economic reforms, including the clearing of foreign exchange backlogs and the attraction of billions of dollars in foreign direct investment. “The Tinubu administration is correcting long-standing fiscal misalignments. These steps are not just technical fixes; they are laying the economic pillars for future growth,” he added.
On infrastructure, Barau praised the relaunch of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano expressway project, which he said had stagnated for years under the previous administration. He also commended the launch of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ), which aim to modernise agriculture and expand rural economic opportunities.
Seven states and the FCT are part of the first phase of SAPZ, with more expected in phase two. According to Barau, this initiative reflects a deliberate effort to shift the economy from consumption to production.
He further hailed the creation of development commissions for all the six geopolitical zones, describing them as a game-changer for grassroots development.
In the education sector, he pointed to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a bold and inclusive policy that is already easing the financial burden on thousands of students and their families.
“The road is rough but the direction is clear. The President is taking difficult decisions today to guarantee a better tomorrow. We must give him time and the support needed to finish the job,” he said.
He concluded by calling on Nigerians to unite behind the Tinubu administration, describing the President as a leader who has shown genuine commitment to Nigeria’s future.
“We have no other country but Nigeria. Let’s support the President as he works to deliver the brighter future we all desire,” he said.
