Some fans of Liz Anjorin, contributed 3.5 million and paid it to Tope Alabi to go and serenade Liz on her birthday. It was to be a surprise.
Things took a different turn when Tope Alabi got to the venue and discovered that she was to serenade Liz Anjorin. She refused to disembark from the bus. She could not be persuaded! Instead she offered to refund the 3.5million which she has since done as soon as she got home.
There are speculations (particularly from the Bulky Jesse camp)that Tope didn’t do it because of her relationship with Funke Akindele. Funke according to gossip, is not in good terms with Liz and she is a strong supporter of Funke because Funke has been good to her, very supportive in many ways over the years.
Ajoke who works with Liz, told Liz on live video that the man in the car with Tope said that Liz is their child, that if she wants to do something, she would have told Tope herself. Ajoke said that it was meant to be a surprise na. That 3 friends in diaspora including herself contributed the total sum. Liz said, well she is not in position to judge what took place as everyone has their reasons for doing things. She said she’s happy it didn’t work out. That the amount was quite a lot and could be put to better use.
People thought that Liz upon hearing this, will start a new saga, but she didn’t. Instead she was quite understanding of the situation.
Feelers from Tope’s camp say that the money paid was 2.5m and not 3.5m. That they gave a discount.. The reason for the change of heart, they say is attributed to the fact that they didnt like why the celebrant was made anonymous to them. That they should have been told who Tope was going to surprise, instead of getting there to find out that it was a celebrity.
Oreofe Williams says, “The reason they returned the money and left was not particularly because of the celebrant or anyone around the venue. They felt deceived and were not given the endeared privilege of a choice by conscience.”
“You don’t ask a singer to ‘surprise’ a public-figure only to keep the celebrant anonymous and eventually ‘surprise’ the ‘surpriser’ at the venue. You will be more surprised!”
