El-Ezhar Care Initiative is in consortium with Murmushi people’s Development (MPDF) Foundation as the lead partner and Clear View Integrity Initiative (CVIF) to implement an integrated UNICEF supported programme across six LGAs of Adamawa State: Gombi, Hong, Mubi North, Mubi South, Michika ad Madagali.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Nutrition Officer
Locations: Gombi, Hong, Mubi North, Mubi South, Mikicka, and Madagali LGA Adamawa
Employment Type: Contract.
Key and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the day to day management of nutrition activities at targeted supplementary feeding program- Tom Brown or IYCF project sites according to standardized protocols, policies and guidelines outlined by the Nigeria Fedderal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and / or Global nutrition standards.
- Participate in the identification of eligible project beneficiaries and community Focal persons including Community Nutrition Mobilizers, Lead Mothers according to assignment.
- Participate in organizing project beneficiaries and volunteers into groups and other For a for dissemination of nutrition messages.
- Participate in planning and conducting community/household surveys or assessments according to needs.
- Participate in the planning and in the implementation of training for the beneficiaries, volunteers and community focal persons.
- Ensure appropriate and consistent education messaging / behaviour change communication (BCC) to mothers and other carers at Tom Brown preparation points or IYCF project sites.
- Ensure beneficiaries absentee or defaulter tracing and other forms of beneficiaries follow-ups at community level
- Implement targeted supplementary feeding program, through preparation, distribution and feeding of moderately malnourished under-fives, and community outreach integrated with IYCF activities according to the stipulated protocols train and mentor nutrition project staff and community nutrition mobilizers (CNM) through identification of capacity gaps and carrying out refresher and on-the-job training.
Communication and Reporting:
- Pass on any information or problems to his/her direct or indirect line manager concerning his/her task, ECI programs or safety aspects.
- Address any issues on the field with the beneficiaries or the community members and tell the line supervisor
- Collect and compile data, pictures and information from the field to represent accurate weekly internal reports to the supervisor.
- Present weekly achievements, problems encountered and suggestion to improve the project implementation.
- Assist in strengthening ECI’s community Feedback and complains system.
- Keep monitoring tools and files archived at the PUI office, ensuring their availability to his/her supervisor.
- Represent ECI at anytime and anywhere when he/she is in duty.
- Supervise the filling and archiving process and ensure that security of physical and digital documents .
- Monitor the preparation of HR files for any internal / external audit
Logistics / Administration:
- Contribute to logistical and administrative organization of the activities related to nutrition program
- Contribute to the definition of the needs in materials and tools regarding the program and the planing of intervention
- Ensure the safety and good condition of nutrition aterial provided by ECI
- The task and responsibilities defined in this job description are non-exhaustive and can evolve depending on the projects needs.
Priorities of the Department:
- Quality implimentation of CMAM and IYCF programs acording to global and national guidelines
- Quality data management ad reportiong of CMAM and IYCF activities.
- Suipport the ntegriated approach through effective referral within Nutrition components and with other programs internally.
- Build the capacity of the nutrition team on thematic areas related to nuttrition.
- Gather training needs of the various department
- When requested, conduct internal training related to HR rules and policies
- Identify external training sources
Qualifications/ Core Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Nutrition, Dietetics, Nursing, Diploma in Nursing or an equivalent field.
- Experience in implementing Tom Brown-Target supplementary feeding program (TSFP) in combination with community-based support group is an added advantage.
- Language Skills: Fluent in English, Hausa Fulfulde is a plus
- Good knowledge and understanding of DO NO HARM principles and established international child protection standards (especially UNICEF)
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years of progressive relevant work experience in with NGO in CMAM and IYCF preferably in Emergency in host communities or IDP cam setting/ conflict settings.
Skills and Competencies:
- Undestanding of nutritional survellence and information system
- Solid understanding of nutrition programming in emergency and development contexts.
- Hands-on experince with RUTF mangement and MAM tretrment usinglocal available food suplemwents (Tom Brown)
- Proven capacity in planning and conducting formal training sessions on nutrition, including CMAM and IYCF
- Strong ability to work independently, organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility
- Works well in and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well.
- Skills in training and management
- Proficiency in the use of computers (MS Word, Excel, Power Point Presentation).
- Should be multitasking and can work with little or no supervision.
- Ability to work as part of a team and to provide quality and timely support and services.
- Professionalism and flexible attitude to work
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of humanitarian sector.
- Ability in aligning environment with few support services
- Experience working with donor funded project
- Ability to speak English fluently, Hausa and other local languages desirable.
- Familiarity with financial management and reporting requirements of major donors.
- Excellent English written, verbal communication and report writing skills tomanage relationship in potential tense situations.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and adapt to diverse contexts.
Interests:
- Commitment to NGO values and principles
- Excellent knowledge of Adamawa state, and willing to travel locally.
Organizational Requirement:
- The post holder will, at all times, carry out his/her responsibilities with the utmost respect for the protection of children by the ECI’s Child and Vulnerable Person/persons Safeguarding Policy.
- The post holder will be required to respect ethnic and racial differences during and after work hours.
- The post holder will report to the PROGRAM MANAGER
